A very cosy setting on the fringes of the famous Bo-Kaap with excellent service and really good food. I can recommend the famous chicken pot pie and the Naked Mexican draft beer.
Petite is the operative work for this restaurant. Portion size is much to be desired. The bobotie was literally the size of two match boxes and the menu has the cheek to say a big enough portion to fill a person. The salad was unappetising and not even sure that a full chicken breast was used in the salad. Left this place still feeling hungry!
Le Petite tarte was well known for its carrot cake and was eating out top 5 places of the best carrot cake. My partner and I went there to go have a taste and decide for our self if it’s true. For me it was good not the best. It was a bit to dense for my liking and it looked dark for a carrot cake. Also it wasn’t that most and was a bit on the dry side. They chia late lacked a bit of honey in there for that extra bit of sweetness. Overall nice little restaurant menu looks interesting. Will maybe go there again if I’m in the neighborhood.
My friend and I bought a wiki deal that afforded us an opportunity to have a 2 course dinner here. The cafe in itself is very cute giving off little French coffee shop vibes, but not really a setting for dinner. My friend had the lamb shank with mash for mains and the chocolate brownie for dessert. She loved the shank, it fell off the bone and was flavoured to her liking. I personally thought the basting was too sweet and that the side of veg it was serve was looked like mush. The brownie tasted like a rich chocolate fudge bar. Both of us prefer baked brownies – so not our fave. I opted for the pork ribs and fries with the cheesecake for dessert. The ribs (or should I say riblets) was served in a pasta bowl on top of the chips with no garnishing. They literally could’ve put it in a basket like Cubana does. It was more pub grub than a restaurant dinner. The basting had far too much cinnamon / nutmeg and also overly sweet. They were out of the cheesecake so I chose the pear and almond tart. If you love almond croissants, this dessert will be your liking. I personally am not a fan of almond paste and there was more almond than pear in that tart so I didn’t eat it. The food really scores a 2 for me. But bonus points goes to the chef that made an effort to come to each table. He also noticed that I didn’t eat the pear tart and gave me a complimentary brownie. I will likely not return though.
