Very mixed experience at Savoy Cabbage last night. It’s not often that I have order envy, but I made the wrong choices whilst my wife enjoyed great choices. Her oysters were good, with an interesting plating on zucchini ribbons with sea salt gel. My kudu carpaccio was a bit bland, and the chocolate smear didn’t make up for it (although the spritz in your mouth champagne grapes were different).Her ragout of salmon, prawns, and mussels in a saffron broth was superb – perfectly cooked salmon, large, perfectly cooked prawns – just perfect. And I noticed the owner eating the same dish on the way out, so clearly the best main option of the night. My fillet with pasta and mushrooms was very disappointing. My first taste was a little dry, so I asked for some extra jus – which they said was not available. By this time I’d discovered that my rare fillet had been cooked to medium/medium rare, which they replaced promptly – with an extra serving of jus. Amazing that it was now available. In all, it was a dry, conference/banquet like plate – so not what I’d expected. My wife’s peppermint crisp dessert was great – my cheese platter underwhelming. So, a mixed experience.
Everything about this restaurant is simply wonderful. Upon arrival you already know you have made the right decision. The vibe is trendy but sophisticated. The staff are well trained, the menu carefully put together. The entire meal from start to finish was a great experience. Try the lamb or pork if it’s on the menu. It will not disappoint. Great all round
