The waiter was friendly but clueless. Ordered eggplant gratin as a side and asked if this could made gluten free. She went to chef who assured he could use corn flour. I agreed. Next thing my side is a heap of cauliflower florets which I cannot eat due to my IBS. I asked her why was this substituted without my permission. She stated the chef decided to change it. No reason. My colleague ordered potato wedges as a side. She got French fries. Her answer to why this was substituted was the same. My other colleague got duck which was cooked until it was charred. So in summary food substitutions are done without asking the patron if it’s ok. This is not only poor service but can potentially be dangerous for people with allergies. Will not be eating there again.
Great breakfast, best to order your warm breakfast while seated the buffet area gets really full and often have to wait for refills. Their variety is decent and outside area is nice on a warm day otherwise it gets really windy.
Situated in the Radisson Hotel on Riebeeck Street, I decide to have lunch here on a very quiet Thursday afternoon. Super friendly staff – I was thanked multiple times for being a patron in the restaurant – super sweet. After asking for recommendations, I was told the lamb shank was the best pick on the menu. It was gorgeous – meat literally fell off the bone. And that sherry jus!! Yum!! Sadly the confit tomatoes needed another 10min roasting time and the mash was quite bland. Their menu is the standard hotel fair, with a few South African / Capetonian dishes in the mix. The hotel also has a casual dining poolside restaurant; looking forward to trying that out soon.
I asked for a well done steak and they gave me an uncooked steak, even after I took it back because it was very raw, it came back still very raw. I’m very disappointed. The waitress also did not help much.
Rather than be out on the street in the dark, we had a very good dinner at the hotel restaurant (Kingclip fish & Filet of Beef). The entrees along with the sides were very tasty and perfectly cooked. The price would have been double for that quality of meal in the US. Great service – friendly server. The buffet meal that we had with the tour group was not as good, meat was overcooked but a nice selection of sides.Very good included breakfast with omelette chef.
