Today’s lunch mission was at this little cafe on Thibault square. Ordered the lasagne with a side salad off the daily blackboard specials. Very yummy and the side salad was absolutely gorgeous (not your typical leaves, tomato and cucumber deal). My only issue was waiting almost 20min to get my order and one would assume blackboard items are ready to be instantly plated. Nonetheless, would return to try one of their fixed menu items.Update: returned this morning for one of the breakfast deals. Had the R35 breakfast bun which was very yummy!
Urban Bean is inviting, funky and offers great value drinks and meals. Staff are friendly and engaging, and the recent menu changes make it a sought after spot in the busy Cape Town square. 5 stars!
Big thumbs up to their hilarious boards that persuaded me to check out this place. Okay. Because I love coffee too. Affordable prices for decent coffee. I love the vibe and look of the place, but it is not impressive enough to pop in again, even though i pass by it twice a day. However, I shall commend them on their breakfast lunch menu.
I’m not sure why it took me so long to visit this place. I’ve basically worked around the corner for the last 5 years and only just discovered this gem. Look, in terms of what is available within walking distance (i.e. no need to find parking) in Cape Town CBD, this place is great for your morning coffee and pastry or quick business meeting. Prices aren’t bad and the food is fresh. The menu is pretty extensive for a coffee shop and they will even deliver to your office for free. One should not judge a coffee shop by one toasted sarmie alone so today I tried their croq monsieur corn ciabatta melt with a latte. Despite the fact that it is spelt incorrectly on their menu, it made a great breakfast 2.0 and the latte was delicious. I have found their pastries quite greasy in the past but their sandwiches will hit the spot when the need arises.
