Sadly not a restaurant to be returned to. While the space is accommodating and the free wifi is appreciated, our mussels were cold (possibly from frozen?), our ribs looked like they were extracted from a small mammal (perhaps a dog), and our waiter had a standoffish attitude that left us with more than a bad taste in our mouths.
My wife and I have eaten here 6 times over the past 12 weeks and we can’t help but come back again and again. Brought friends and family with us on 3 occasions and we all agree great restaurant. Food is truly brilliantly prepared and effort is made for each plate of food served. They have amazing walk in special. E.G. 1 Crayfish tail, 1 Linefish, 3 Prawns, Calamari and Mussels with chips for R125.00 that was what my wife and I had last night. It was delicious. We are firm regulars from now on. Also try their ribs it is amazing as well as there lamb curry. I can keep raving how great they are go for your self and enjoy.
Cafe Soul looked very laid-back and casual so I didn’t expect too much. But BOY was I wrong. The food was absolutely excellent and my discerning foodie family agreed. We all ordered something different, from linefish to seafood platter to lamb curry and ribs, and everyone’s food was great. The hot chocolate was properly made with milk froth. The bar filled with light from many windows, pebble floor and sport on TV created a sunny, friendly weekend vibe. My only constructive criticism would be have one or two nicer wines on the wine list to match the good food and excellent craft beer – they were all in the cheap and cheerful side. I’ll definitely be back.
The fairly new Cafe Soul that I have driven past often when heading onto & from Boyes Drive, I have been curious to try out. Its away from Kalk Bay’s hub, so its no problem getting a table at peak hour. A very chilled, & relaxed setting. We sat at the bar area which is actually great with the pebble stone floor. The fish platter, & craft beer ‘Happy Pills’ were really good. My mushroom soup starter was very tastey, but unfortunately my R165 lamb shank was dry. I brought it to the waiters attention, he apologised, & offered me a dessert on the house (That is great service) The chocolate fondant was how it should be.
We had dinner here on a busy Friday evening. The restaurant was full to overflowing and had very obviously been overbooked: the table next to us had to sit all squashed up next to each other on a bench waiting for chairs to become available. We were made to wait for half an hour in the bar before our reserved table became available. There were only two waiters working and the only way to get any service was to stand up and bring one of them to the table. The food however was excellent and good value for money. It’s a pity about the poor service.
