I visit the theatre as often as possible and always try to get a table. I reckon it is an absolute must to eat at the exquisite restaurant upstairs if you are watching a show at the quaint Kalk Bay Theatre. The food is always incredible, the service is always fantastic and the whole place buzzes with such a super atmosphere. The decor of the restaurant is stunning and I absolutely love the personalised table names for all of the guests, it is such a special touch. After your incredible meal and an even more incredible show, be sure to pop back upstairs for a scrumptious cup of freshly made coffee. I have tried almost half of the menu and my ultimate favourite is the Artisan Ravioli. The pasta is always so flavorful and the presentation is stunning. I have also had their amazing crispy shrimp wontons and their molten camembert which are both super scrumptious and I love their sharing platters. I cannot wait to go back for another show and another scrumptious, incredible dining experience. I wish I could give more than 5 stars!
You may wonder how I can judge a place based on a bottle of water and a dessert but no food. Well, if they put the same effort into their meals, it MUST be amazing. The eating deck is upstairs overlooking the theatre from an atrium. The eclectic mismatched chairs and tiny tables add to the quaintness. We had over an hour to kill before a show and had just eaten elsewhere. Even so, the waitress was friendly and really impressed us with her response to our request for less ice cream and more choc sauce. When she brought the dessert, there was more than enough of the former and a WHOLE BOWL of delicious hot chocolate sauce! Such indulgence!Happily James Grace and Saadiq Khan’s flamenco guitar performance was as memorable.
