My husband and I decided to try the wood-fired pizzas at Sostanza on Thursday night. While the pizzas were good, the rest of the experience was not. Admittedly, it was close to 8pm when we arrived so there were only one or two other tables, but there wasn’t much of a vibe. We were completely ignored by the manageress on arrival despite the fact that she walked right past us while we were waiting at the door (she did come around once to check if we were enjoying our meal). Our waiter was pleasant and fairly efficient at the beginning, but after he brought our main course he disappeared. After we’d finished eating, no one was in a rush to take our plates. We sat at the table trying to catch the eye of our waiter, who by that stage was chatting to someone outside (for about 10-15 minutes) or one of the other waiters who were chatting to the other behind the counter (one also picking a scab on this arm quite intently), but to no avail. I eventually caught the eye of one of the waiters behind the corner and he brought our bill. We left, with our waiter still chatting to the person outside barely noticing that we’d left. Unfortunately not even a good and reasonably priced pizza can make up for the lack of service.
I enjoyed the food and the relaxed atmosphere of this part of town. We accidentally left our takeaway on the table and went to Pick N Pay next door. The waitress who served us was kind enough to hunt us down in PnP and return our food. Thank you, a little goes a long way.
Met some ladies here for cake and coffee. Really spacious interior with a nice ambience. I had a cappuccino which was fabulous and a slice of baked cheesecake which was pretty good. Also had a taste of the dark chocolate cake and it was delicious! The service was quick and efficient and the prices are about average. Nice spot overall.
Poor service, it took the food over an hour to arrive and was not very impressed with my salad. The Pizzas which the rest of the party ordered did not really make an impression. Too many tables to cover for such a small establishment. Pity.
Always have delicious pizza. Wish they’d let us know that they had downgraded their pizzas to a kiddies size before the time. Still good pizza though
