Reuben Riffel never fails to disappoint. The experience was exceptional. The food was superb and full of flavour and I loved the intimate setting. The service was also brilliant.I also really appreciated the extra length they went to to make me feel special on my birthday – I highly recommend it for birthdays and other special occasions. However, the only disappointment was the bacon ice cream. I did not have it but my family did and none could actually eat it so I definitely recommend steering clear of that item – which is not a worry with so many other incredible options available.

Staff were more than accommodating when we asked for a late lunch. Even though thevkitchrn was closed and we were the only two people their, the chef let us order the most divine charcuterie board!! Plus since we didn’t eat pork, removed the prosciutto and gave us extra cured beef. The pimms was equally refreshing! Really loved the decor and atmosphere of this luxe little hideaway. I have to come back to stay!

No longer Reuben’s so this needs to be updated as it is misleading. I booked to stay at the hotel again purely based on the wonderful meals I had at the restaurant when it was under the Reuben’s banner. This review is for the restaurant now being hosted on the premises. It’s hard to give a 100% unbiased via because I sat down expecting a Reuben’s menu and was offered the house menu. Anyway – my partner and I ordered a starters main and dessert to share and decided to give it a fair chance. The food was cooked perfectly but lacked that punch of flavor one expects from fine dining. Granted the menu explained that the in house chef was all about local produce and simple dishes but still the flavour needs to pop. That’s the beauty about small curated dishes every bite should leave you excited to see what the next combination brings. In this case the flavours in each dish were one note because there was no twist on the norm or no additional flavours brought onto the plate. What you see is what you get. If that’s what the chef was going for then spot on but for me fine dining should give me brave flavor combinations that surprise and intrigue me. This unfortunately was not that. If you want reliable service and well cooked food, presented well but at a premium then this is the place. If your want an adventure for your taste buds then is not the place.

Founded in 1853, Robertson (named after the Dutch Reformed Minister Dr William Robertson) lingers in the long shadows of the Langeberg mountains, gently persuading the Breede River to share in the bounty of the land.Today, Robertson is a sleepy little town by night but as as the largest of the neighbouring towns of McGregor, Ashton, Bonnievale and Montagu which all fall in a 160km radius of Robertson, supplies are mostly collected from Robertson.I was invited to join Mira Weiner from McGregor Country Getaways for a boutique breakfast at the very stylish and excessively upmarket restaurant under the watchful eye of Chef Reuben Riffel (see Masterchef) situated at the Robertson Small Hotel. The area in which breakfast was served was beautifully lit with natural rays. Servers ready to provide you with your every need and a smile. I had a salmon omelette which was very tasty, but the flapjacks were the item that made everyone around me order the same.Rich in colour, light and fluffy and beautifully presented. The most photographed flapjack of the day!

Amazing food, perfect service, beautiful setting in the Robertson small hotel. Personal attention to detail. For mains we had the pork belly (mind blowing, done to perfection), and the Norwegian salmon – would order both again in a heartbeat. All in all this spot deserves a 5 out of 5 without question. Can’t wait to return.
