Thr food was great but service was terrible. A bug dropped in my plate and swam around in the sauce. A fly then dropped into my other half’s Dom Pedro. When we told the waiter he was like ‘oh’ took the Dom Pedro with the fly inside and the plate with the bug on it and just went away not saying a word next. He even asked if we wanted to add a tip on the bill. I would have at least have expected for him to speak to the manager about their insect problem but no. Vincent, our waiter could not give a damn.
Pringle Bay Festival, never realized they had one but we came along at about 09:30 thinking we should get in early but were amazed that apart from the fun run and a few other stalls, most people weren’t ever set up and ready to serve. The food trucks never looked inviting so we wandered through the alleys until we came to the pleasant outdoor dining area of Simply Coffee. We have eaten here before, and at the upstairs 365 Bistro and always enjoyed it. We were lucky to get a table in this packed venue but we sat mostly in the sun with early winter temperatures rising to an unseasonal 35-35 degrees!! An umbrella would have been good. I decided to have the Curry Mince toasty, on brown and it was very pleasant, served with a small bowl of lightly curried noodles. Michele had the croissant with Brie and fig preserve and was happy with hers as well. The chocolate milkshake and iced coffee (milkshake) were both excellent. Out waiter seemed distracted and a bit disinterested and we received more attention from the guy serving other tables around us which was a pity, eventually had to make my way to the counter to get the bill, sorry but that’s why I never gave her a tip, she was never around to be found when we needed her! I think this place has great potential, food good and some of the waiters seem excellent, we will be back.
Expectations can’t be too high for a coffee shop in a small town, but it’s still not an excuse for average service. As far as a cheap bite goes, Simply Coffee was acceptable and fair value – but not good in any other way. I wouldn’t return unless it was an emergency.
