Wooden Barrel was a bit of a good and bad experience. Very busy in Hermanus during Whale Festival time and this may account, in part for the very very slow service. The Steak Sandwich is absolutely delicious filled with matured sirloin strips, sweet peppers, fried onions and tons of other goodies. The Calamari starter is yummy crispy served with a lemon & dill mayo. The ultimate shocker was the Seafood Basket at R150, you get 3 very sad tasteless prawns, horrible brown rubber calamari strips, plain piece of hake and loads of cream colour chips with sauce. This from a restaurant right at the ocean is just food being made with no respect.
Yummy egg steak and chips and a seafood basket where I could swop chips for a delicious salad. Best part though was the friendly and extremely attentive waiter Zee – ask for him when u go his food recommendations are spot on!

Great evening and great food. Good value for money and worth a visit. What made the evening was good service from the trainee waiter. Well done you! Keep going Wooden Barrel.
