Interesting and unusual food. We got the 3 course without wine pairing. The bread starter (they surprisingly charge R25 for this) was delicious. Starters and mains were also good. Dessert was a ok, nothing to write home about. Overall, the food was enjoyable. However, unfortunately the service was disappointing. Waitresses were not knowledgeable about the food, and didn’t seem as though they wanted to be there. Overall a good experience but not somewhere I’d run back to in a hurry. For the price, there are better options in the area.
There’s a reason the World’s 50 Best Restaurants committee labeled Foliage one to watch. Foliage presents some of the most beautiful plates I’ve seen in a surprisingly casual restaurant, with an ambiance that has all the chill. . Every plate is a fortress of formidable foraging, piles of glowing greens like fallen autumn leaves. The Charred Beetroot Salad is a celebratory starter, festive bulbs of beets that twinkle through wild mixed green like lights on a string. An otherwise crisp and airy salad is rooted by earthy celeriac, A creamy remoulade has a sharper edge with nasturtium and a strongly aged vinegar.
Fantastic food, and delicious vegetarian and vegan options although not a very wide variety. Lovely casual ambience. We will definitely return. Beautiful artwork. Waiters very friendly and helpful.
We’ve eaten at half of the Eat-Out Top 20 restaurants in Cape Town and from start-to-finish Foliage was our favourite. It’s the first restaurant where every dish was superb and the value was exceptional. The setting is a little more casual and rustic than some of the smarter restaurants, but that adds to the experience in my opinion. Absolutely perfect!
