A little bit off the beaten track and a few kilometers from Franschhoek is where you will find Glenwood. They are renowned for their Chardonnay and their flagship is the Chardonnay Vigneron’s selection, barrel fermented and matured in new French barrels. Their Sauvignon Blanc is fresh and zesty. Classic notes of passion fruit and a grest wine to enjoy with seafood. Following the demand for Chardonnay – they offer both the unwooded and wooded options. The unoaked Chardonnay is crisp with a subtle creaminess for a well-balanced wine. The Chardonnay oak is my favourite. It delivers a full, rich, buttery mouthfeel of almonds and vanilla with a lingering aftertaste of smoky peach and citrus fruits.Merlot is elegant with layers of chocolate and plums on the palate. Delicious! Shiraz is spicy with smoky aromas. Ideal for any occasion. Glenwood is definitely the hidden gem of Franschhoek and a great place to visit if you like a good Chardonnay.
Looking forward to coming here as I heard they had amazing Chardonnay and I was not disappointed. However I think their Grand Duc Chardonnay is priced bit too high at R800 a bottle. The rest of their wines are nice and smooth and cannot find any real fault. They have some cheese and meat platters but the view is outstanding. Service is friendly enough but the decor is a little on the 80s side with dark wood and I think needs a revamp. They located off the beaten track but worth the drive. Will I go back? Yeah I’d go back.
Had an amazing evening in the maturation room turned into party room on the Friday night before the Bastille Day Festival. The staff were fanatically friendly and gave us an impromptu wine tasting before the evening started. We had a great guitarist. The starter was amazing French onion soup served in an enamel mug with a slice of toasted French bread. The mains was snoek braai, sweet potatoes and fresh farm bread with a large green salad. Desert was caramel topped petite fours. The food took ages but was very tasty. The potatoes were cold which was disappointing. The wine was great and company excellent. What a pleasure to find this amazing wine farm hidden in the mountains with passionate staff. We will be back.
Heaven on hearth. This place is spectacular. Tasting some luscious wines with the most amazing hummus with Lavash, just to die for. Do your self a favour and come try it for yourself
