We were looking for a simple, unpretentious Franschhoek restaurant with a nice view. Piccolo has a lovely view and the waitress was very sweet and attentive, but the food was an enormous disapppointment. I ordered the salmon burger (don’t even know why it is called this. What I received was a bed of absolutely plain rice noodles and a tuna fillet (they had run out of salmon) that had been absolutely cooked to death with soapy boiled broccoli and carrots on the side. No seasoning. No sauces. Just dry, hard tuna fillet that was verging on biltong. I hope the owners take note because the vibe was very pleasant but that dish was a disaster.
If you are looking for a no frills kinda place this is it.My husband and I felt like something simple and a menu that was not going to break the bank. And we were in the mood for some seafood (they also do grills and sushi). My husband opted for the calamari which came with a starch and a salad or veg. I went for the seafood platter special which came with line fish, prawns, mussels and calamari. This also came with a special cocktail. The food was seasoned well, and satisfied our tastebuds. Desserts were limited. Both banana based desserts which we decided to skip. Though it seems they change this according to the availability of produce as there isn’t any official desserts menu.
