Greengate is a hidden gem on the corner of Church Street. The harvest table is by far one of the best in Stellenbosch. Our waitress was on the ball and made sure we were well taken care of.
As an ‘almost ‘ vegetarian I have found that the options are very limited when eating out. How nice then, to find a little restaurant tucked away in the heart of Stellenbosch. Greengate is certainly not pretentious and if you like good food and are in a hurry, then it is worth a visit. I have to admit that I did not even look at the menu, but went straight to the buffet. What a great selection. Two hot vegetarian options, two hot meat options, a selection of vegetables and a wonderful salad selection; avo, couscous, tomato, etc a feast. Your food is weighed and charged by the gram so it is not a cheap meal. But if it’s hearty, flavor some food you are after, then look no further.
A lovely little spot in the hub of Stellenbosch, located in a quiet quartyard, this is the perfect place for a relaxing lunch or late afternoon glass of wine. I always opt for the buffet style lunch, which is to die for!! They have a large selection of healthy and hearty dishes, from cream chicken to delicious Aubergine salad- it’s almost impossible to resist going for a second round! However, since the food is priced according to the plate’s weight, a lunch here ends up being very expensive. I would not recommend Greengate if you are starving as you will end up paying an arm and a leg for the buffet lunch.
This restaurant is nestled in De Wet gebou, which is a square in the midst of Stellenbosch. It is quaint but has a number of outdoor tables in the quad, and there is something charming and sweet about being outdoors with a cup of coffee and a baked treat. Their breakfasts are simple but tasty and for lunch they have a buffet, with a number of freshly baked dishes and salads, ideal for a quick lunch. The highlight of this place is their staff and service; it is is always quick and very friendly and you always feel welcome.
