Absolute mare of an experience today. Only 2 staff in the tasting room. We were told they would come to us at the table, this did not happen. We asked about cheese platters, no idea what it costs and you can’t order in the tasting room, yet there was another table having one. We went to hand in our list as the person who was to do our tasting was no where to be seen. Now only one person in tasting room who I don’t believe generally works there. First wine took roughly 30 minutes to receive and not surprised at this point that it was not correct to what had been requested. The original chap reappears so went to confront him, at this time the other tasting room assistant dissappears. I was shocked at his attitude when asked if we must come sit at the counter as we don’t want to wait so long. Says we don’t have staff, we busy, and it’s not his fault its just how it is. Looking around there was 5 people standing at the bar, a table leaving and 1 table having the platter sharing a bottle wine, so no it was not busy. So our tasting stopped and we left, to find the other tasting room assistant having a smoke outside watching a tractor pull a car out the mud. Absolutely shocking experience. Need to sort staff out.
Went for a drive out with the family, and my parents chose to stop here for lunch. I was just attracted to the large wine bottle upfront. When looking at their menu, it came across as ‘homecooked’ type meals. Nothing fancy or gourmet. Between all of us, we had pizza, chicken schnitzel, curry, and macaroni and cheese. I won’t lie, the wait was long, if I’m not mistaken around 35minutes. And on top of that, the macaroni and cheese was asked to come without bacon(due to her religious views)and when it arrived, it still had bacon in it and because of that, she chose not to join in and eat. Which was disappointing.
Had a great wine tasting here on a Sunday morning. The lady that offered the wine tasting was friendly, knowledgeable and not overbearing: three things I value in a wine-tasting!I was also very pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of wine. Simonsvlei is definitely a good place to stop for a wine tasting in the Paarl region.
Shocking – will never go there again and warn friends about it. Waited over hour for food and when food arrived fish was off. Then manager tried to argue that fish was fine. Staff was unfriendly and we saw them hardly during the wait. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from this restaurant
