Good for a cheap date option. However, the food is below average. The restaurant could really work on better ways of serving their food. Milkshakes are the worst. Good for afternoon out with the kids as they offer open outside play area.

Well, I followed the advice of previous reviewers and left my expectations at the door; and in doing so I actually enjoyed myself here. The Palms is grander than most pub & grubs in size only. On every other level they compare to every other pub & grub, great food with rubbish service. I never gave myself the chance to experience said poor service so I served myself. I went to the front counter to order my meals, drinks and pay the bill, and in doing so my meals and drinks were delivered timeously. I ordered the 600g pork ribs which were divine, I highly recommend them. They even serve tea with options for hot or cold milk (see, low expectations make for happy surprises). The milkshake was nice too. Oops I did it again, I climbed into the food before taking the photo, I tend to do that if the meal smells fantastic.
Definitely a venue where you need to check your expectations at the door. I suspect the polar opposite reviews here are largely due to people having the wrong expectations. Essentially The Palms is a glorified Spur wrapped into an industrial farm + truck stop + biker hangout. Even considering that description it’s incredibly child friendly with a big outdoor play area that had the usual jungle gym and then also a jumping castle. They miss the mark to their own disadvantage by not having a bigger table presence right at the kids play area because it’s the parents who spend the money and I suspect many people just walk in and back out again to use the play area without ever spending a cent. Big problem is service from the waiting staff because the area is quite large and distributed meaning that if you sit in the wrong place you end up being forgotten. If you are a patient person it’s not a problem and you will be served but it can frustrate when you need to move. Ultimately it’s a place you want to sit down and spend a few hours, not a quick bite and run. Food wise like I said it’s very much a Spur menu and as that goes it’s decent value and reasonably good food. I’ve not had a terrible meal there but at the same time nothing I’d specially recommend people to go for either. I’ve only been there during the day, once for a kiddies party and another time when driving past on a lazy Sunday. I suspect it will be quite different at night time with live entertainment and more people.
The worst service ever! A busy Saterday night with hundreds of patrons. ONE barman behind the counter only serving ladies. The waiter tells us that they have to wait longer than the customers. He has been waiting 30 minutes for a can of coke. We are going home for a bottle of wine and meat on our own grill
