Good things are worth the trip. Nestled next door to Jordan Wine Estate is DeMorgenzon. When you arrive all you hear is classical music. That’s because it’s what the vines hear all day long. The tasting room is this elegant style lounge where you can chill and enjoy the wines. The wines are actually really good. Loved their Chardonnay, Chenin and white blend. The Chenin has this lovely sweet notes and light. The Chardonnay had almonds and fresh. Service is very chilled and friendly. Thou for the amount of people tasting there was one person explaining the wines. All in all a great experience if you are on your way to Jordan and want to knock one or two wine farms.
De Morgenzon, ‘the morning sun,’ was named because it is the first part of the Stellenboschkloof valley to see the sun because of its high altitude. They offer a great selection of fine wines from Chenin Blancs and Chardonnay, to Syrah, Merlot and Maestro blends. It is said that Baroque music is played to the vines in the vineyard to enhance the quality of the grapes. Not sure if the wines do benefit from the classic music, but the wines are great and enjoyable. Our host, Richard, gave us a warm and friendly introduction with an excellent knowledge of the wines. This boutique-style winery is definitely worth the visit, although a little bit off the beaten track.
DeMorgenzon truly has some of the best wines in the area. And with it being conveniently located right next to Jordan, it makes for the perfect wine tasting stop! The grounds are absolutely stunning! And with quiet classical music playing in the background, you really do feel like royalty. They play this music to their vineyards – the apparent reason for their high quality wines. The person who served us was very knowledgeable and explained each wine with great care. I’m so happy he took the time to do so, because usually when I go wine tasting on my own, being a student, they usually don’t take me seriously and just serve me the wine with no explanation. I really felt like we were being individually taken care of!My only criticism is that I think it would be nice if they offered a platter with their wine tastings. It would go down very nicely on the patio, overlooking the mountains and beautifully maintained lawns with a glass of one of their award winning wines!
