There is something so personal and cozy about the Farm Kitchen at Spier and its approach to all things organic. As we sat down, we realised that not only could we customise a picnic or opt to eat in their farmhouse-style kitchen, but we could actually watch our food being baked.Due to the cold Wintry rain on our first visit, we decided on this visit to eat in and Spier’s range of freshly-prepared food options to choose from did not disappoint! Think rotisserie chicken, handcrafted pies (like the chicken and leek pie that I chose on my first visit) and freshly made sandwiches to name just a few..Another advantage of a visit to Spier Farm Kitchen.. Farmer Angus’s pasture-reared products (eggs, biltong, bone broth as well as chicken, pork and beef). However, if it is an outdoor, customised picnic that you are after, Spier Farm Kitchen has both a Seasonal and Vegetarian option. For example, the Spier Farm Kitchen’s current seasonal picnic basket for two includes an absolute feast:  Mushroom & spinach quicheBoerenkaas cheeseCamembert cheeseSelection of local cured meatsHumus, baby cornichonsHomemade chutneys, crackersCiabatta rolls & butterFarmer Angus roast chicken leg & thighRozendal pickled beetroot salad with feta, baby spinachRoasted fennel & cous cous salad with fresh citrus segments, toasted almondsChocolate brownies with berry compote Choice of Spier Signature wineWhat a stunning concept and day enjoyed at Spier Farm Kitchen. I will be back (and hopefully in better weather get to sample one of their gorgeous outdoor picnics). For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter: LaurasWorldza

A real disappointment. The dinner menu consisted of three items – beef, chicken or vegan burger. This is fine but the the lack of quantity was not backed up by quality. The vegan “patties” were stores bought and the chicken burger although large was dry and absolutely tasteless. When we asked for the supposed “peri peri” that the chicken was meant to be basted in we were told most people find it too hot so it was left off but the waiter could bring it to add ourselves. What he brought was not at all peri-peri but a very hot pepper Tabasco-like sauce that the kitchen has dispensed into dishes. What a shame. Choose another restaurant option at Spier.
