The absolute best calamari that I’ve ever tasted in my life. The restaurant is located within the Oude Werf Hotel and offers Cape Malay dishes as well as more traditional western/European fare for less adventurous tourists. I enjoyed Calamari as a starter and a Springbok shanks as the main. The others had butternut squash ravioli and Boboti, everyone enjoyed their meals and we all enjoyed breakfast the following day as well. The service is unparalleled.

Went for a Valentine’s Dinner, the main was a seafood salad which was okay except the flavours were a bit bland and some a bit dry. Starter and dessert were much better. The service was very slow even though the restaurant was only half full. The decor and ambience was very nice and it was a lovely evening.

We had a very quick dinner here one evening in Stellenbosch for two reasons: 1. Not a soul (including the night manager on duty, John) had any record of my booking whatsoever, even though I had confirmed it twice and had it in writing. In fact, no-one on duty even knew the contact person working at the establishment that I had dealt with, which was both embarrassing and confusing causing a rather loud debate as more staff members were called. 2. The waitress, after we had ordered our meal, then informed us that she’d in error, seated us on the wrong table because they’d mistaken us for a honeymooning couple staying with them..Basically, nothing went right on this visit and we really felt in the way. I was relieved to leave that evening. On the food side, on our rainy visit, we ordered:Broccoli and Blue Cheese Soup to start. Then, we chose to share the vegetarian option: Ricotta, Kale and Toasted Pine Nut Ravioli with mushroom and Truffle pesto, and gruyere cream, and the meaty alternative: Flame Grilled Sirloin Steak with Bearnaise sauce and Oudewerf-style Hasselback potato. The mains we decided, after having a taste (and discussing the events of the evening), to just leave and head home. I cannot comment on the hotel or restaurant facilities as this was such a short visit, but our meal was decent and the discrepancies were addressed the next day by management which is why I have given them a 3/5. We plan to return in the new year sometime, and I will update this review, once we have returned to give it another chance, but unfortunately you don’t always get a second chance to make a first impression.  For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter: LaurasWorldza

Food was fabulous. Service was extremely slow especially considering we were one of the only tables there. There were no starters on the menu which was a bit weird but the quality of the mains partly made up for it
