My absolute favorite restaurant in Stellenbosch. I first came to know about this hidden gem on a tv show by Bertus so I always wanted to try it. The restaurant is hidden behind buildings buy upon entry a great warm and friendly vibe awaits you. The menu consists of small share plates and makes it fun in large groups because you can almost try everything on the menu. The staff is super friendly. (smoked cauliflower is a must to try!)
Fantastic food and great service both times we’ve been here. Steak and the gnocchi both highly recommended; the gnocchi being the best we’ve ever had. Casual and relaxed.
A hidden gem in Stellenbosch. I discovered this special restuarant walking past it. I walked straight in for lunch. What a great surprise. Firstly the setting under the trees in the court yard has a great casual atmosphere. This is one of South Africa’s best chefs Bertus Basson’s new venture. Casual tapas dining but there is nothing casual about these dishes. The same fine dining techniques and skills are evident in each dish. A must visit for Cape Town.
WOW Had business in the area and my colleague decided to introduce me to Spek & Bone. From our arrival the look and feel of the restaurant is just so beautiful. Hidden down a ling passage you come into a hidden garden where the smell of the continuous burning smoker ensure that the food is fresh and the chef serious about it.The service was attentive but not overwhelming we started with some smoked olives, tempura khale, a fresh camembert covered in nuts and figs. Also came some great pig skin and home smoked bacon. For main course we enjoyed the Peppered squid and the Lamb ribs. What a treat
We had such an amazing experience here on a Tuesday morning when load shedding stage 4 was in full swing. No matter! Spek and bone were more than happy to accommodate us and man did they deliver amazing food! The waitstaff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Extensive wine menu and home grown fresh tapas style food. We did not have one single plate we didn’t enjoy. The hi-lights were definitely the gnocchi, spring roll and Camembert pot. Dessert was incredible and beautiful. We sampled each of them and they were exceptional. Set in a whimsical garden, the atmosphere is unbelievable especially when the lights popped back on and the music began to play. You’d be a fool not to pop in for a meal and a glass (bottle) of wine too.
