Real cape platteland hotel with an excellent restaurant De Stoep Our tour group overnighted here and dinner and breakfast was fantastic Different types of meals but excellent food with great preparation Dinner and wine R850 for 5 people Worthy of a stop and overnight
Enjoyed a relaxed lunch on the verandah of De Stoep today. Sitting outside with a view over the town and surrounds is probably the best setting for lunch in town. Their menu’s got some decent variety – although the execution is not perfect – and their food is decent enough. A nice option for a more formal meal in Riebeek Kasteel. The service was friendly and attentive. I’d recommend a visit, but expect to be satisfied, not blown away.
We had breakfast as well as Dinner at this place. Pork Belly, Lamb Belly, Eggs Benedict, and all were at a high standard. Well prepared, and the chef’s hand could be seen on how the plate was prepared and plated. Well done!
We recently spent a week at Hermon just down the road from Riebeeck Kasteel while participating in the Cape Epic and had dinner at the Royal Restaurant on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Sadly we weren’t able to get a table on Monday night, it was fully booked. The food here is outstanding and would not be out off place at the top restaurants in Cape Town or Johannesburg. Let me just clarify, we booked for Tuesday night to try it and then decided to come back every other night and have exactly the same because it was too good. My partner had the sweet potato and butternut soup that is served with a pastry lid which is pierced at the table and the remainder of the soup poured. For mains I had the fillet served with bernaise sauce and oxtail. Triple cooked fries accompanied the meal. Every element of the dish was perfectly prepared every night and the meat was cooked a perfect medium rare as ordered. For dessert I had a trio of meringues which was very sweet but chewy and soft as expected. Same food for 3 nights? Yes and I was looking forward to it every night. Highly recommended and probably the best restaurant for miles.
