Absolutely delicious sandwiches. Had pulled pork shoulder with slaw on the freshest sourdough, the meat was the star of the show and was not over spiced or too saucy. Mates had the BLT on sourdough which was also great, and French toast where they were very generous with the bacon! The interior could use some work, looks a bit shoddy, but outside under the trees was great. Coffee was also good. Will definitely be back.
I have only been here for coffee, which was very good. I found the interior pleasant with the gardens and the fish in the bath. Some spots were a little scruffy outside, like the piece of plywood clumsily standing in front of the bath. The laminated printouts on the tables were also quite scruffy. The pigs hanging off of the roof were cute. I also absolutely loved the artworks that were for sale. I will definitely return for one of those pieces, they were gorgeous. We are vegetarian, and weren’t quite impressed by their interior branding of pigs growing up to be slaughtered (little piggy, medium piggy, large piggy, bacon). I guess it could be witty to a lot of clientele who don’t feel at all sensitive about animal killings for human consumption, but I don’t find it at all funny nor do I find it clever.
Almost everything in Darling is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. But happily, the Flying Pig was open. A small, quirky restaurant, The Flying Pig offers a small menu of wholesome sounding options. I chose the pulled pork and coleslaw sandwich.  Given the choice of several different breads, I went with the owners’ recommendation of the roosterbrood. The sandwich was generously filled with excellent pork. Great choice and highly recommended. One of our group was banting, and decided she’d try the same, but without the bread, and her meal was enough for lunch, even without the bread. The chicken mayonnaise sandwich wasn’t bad, but it didn’t get quite the same rave reviews as the pulled pork, although the sourdough bread was described as excellent. The owners were very much in evidence and their enthusiasm was clear. They cure their own pork, so perhaps we should have tried one of the bacon dishes – maybe next time!
