Had a lovely stop here the other weekend. The colossal beef rib is amazing – slow cooked to perfection in the original smokehouse. My partner had the brisket, which was a little bit dry. However, his buttermilk mash was a highlight, while my coleslaw two-ways was just okay. The light side was tasty but the red side was a little much for me. I would recommend this shed though for its great service and speedy food (ironically slow cooked) if you ever find yourself between Cape Town and Hermanus 🙂
We stopped in after some wine tasting and what a nice find it was. We sat on the patio outside and had some beer, wine and gingerbeer. Then on to the pork ribs and a chicken slider. Unfortunately they were out of a few things but the waiter advised us as soon as they had seated us which is great news because you know where you stand immediately. The food was delicious and the ribs did fall off the bone as a good smoked rib should do. We will be going back to try some other things. Oh, and the BBQ sauce on the table is delicious!! Especially over their buttermilk mash.

The concept of the American smokehouse has arrived locally at The Hickory Shack. Dave and I first went for lunch mid-week and we were both surprised at how full they were. We have learnt from that meal that we need to make a booking. Our second visit was with friends, and then a few months ago we went for a third time.
Great find on our way to the Overberg. We ordered the pork belly ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket. We eat BBQ all the time, and the Hickory Shack delivered. The ribs and brisket were excellent. Portions were adequate. The pulled pork was the weakest of the three dishes we ordered, so I probably wouldn’t order it again (maybe order the beef ribs next time) but it was still better than most other places. Note if approaching from Cape Town and using Google Maps, the directions have not been updated for an earlier turnoff. Just follow the signs on the roadside and save a couple of minutes.
