It attracted numerous celebrities to its parties such as Mata Hari, the Rothschilds, the King of Belgium and the Shah of Persia up until 1924, the year that gambling was banned. On 20 January 1947 it was converted into the City Hall which was previously based in Plaza de la Constitucin.
