About

Hemingway found refuge here while dodging bullets during the Spanish Civil War. Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra, and James Stewart sipped cocktails on the couch-like booths. In fact, the Museo Chicote has been attracting a celebrity clientele since its inception in 1931, making it the most famous cocktail bar in Madrid. Having recently undergone renovation, the art-deco bar is enjoying a sort of Renaissance, thereby reclaiming its top spot in the Madrid nightlife scene. The sophisticated venue is popular among the young, hip and creative crowd, who arrive around midnight to sip on Mint Juleps and Singapore Slings, while swaying in time to the live music & DJ. This bar was also voted for the 'Best European Bar 2004' by MTV-Campari.

My mom and I stumbled upon this place since it was close to our hotel and it did not disappoint! I don’t normally drink cocktails, but that was the best mojito I’ve ever had!

Hadn’t been there since 1986 or 87. Seem to remember behind the bar looking a bit like a pharmacy with lots of bottles for mixing the witches brew, but it remains pretty much the same, and the cocktails were great.

Very personable staff. Drinks made by the bartender were delicious and he was very knowledgeable about his drinks and culture! The pics hung around the restaurant were also great to see!

We went because it was one of Ernest Hemingway’s favorite places. We were thrilled to find it unchanged since his day.
