About
I would like to submit my review - below. This is a new bar/restaurant. A new bar restaurant with a difference The Casbah is a new Bar/Restaurant at the far end of Levante Beach. If you know where McDonalds is you are almost there. The Casbah is the last frontage in the line of bars and shops stretching from McDonalds to the road going up the hill. We ate dinner there one night when they were offering a Menu del Dia for 12 euros. It was a fairly simple affair two starters Mussel Salad or Bacalao (salt cod) and potato croquets; two mains chicken & vegetables on skewers or salmon which came with a large dish of excellent chips and one dessert of fresh fruit although you could choose melon or pineapple for this. We sat outside overlooking the beach and after a stuttering start, the service improved tremendously. Our very pretty and friendly waitress got over the language barrier (she was neither Spanish nor English possibly Dutch or German). The meal was fairly simple, but beautifully cooked and presented. It was a refreshing change to have fresh pineapple garnished with cherries instead of a heavy dessert. Whilst we waited for our meal we read the normal menu which isnt cheap, but contained steaks and some unusual dishes with a Moroccan or Middle Eastern influence. A lot of money looks to have been spent converting the old Wok Buffet into the Casbah. There are very large settees and low tables near to the entrance. Just after them was an area where an artiste was playing the saxophone, some more usual bar tables and then at the back were tables set out with white linen cloths for dining. The saxophonist sounded very good, but later in the evening a belly dancer (young slim and very pretty with NO belly) was the entertainer. She moved excellently, to the delight of many male fans. Next day there was no sign of the Menu del Dia board, but as we had booked a meal in the Old Town for that night it wasnt a problem for us, but it would be a shame if they didnt continue it for a while to let more people know about the bar. We enjoyed the meal we had and if it is indicative of the quality of the regular meals then they should be good. I hope that this place does well and look forward to visiting again.
