I heard a lot about this place in blogs and the reviews around.I tried the Kos ata mallum Sambolaya.Mutton vatuwal, matara, matara bamuda, Roti.i didn’t feel anything was up to the mark.We had to ask 3-4 times for a glass of water.Service was so poor. When I said I didn’t like the fish dish, rather than some other option, they said, they have to pay the money. Will never suggest this place to anyone
Wow. This is a no nonsense place that one would come to eat some lovely Sri Lankan food. Made popular by the fact that they serve homely lankan fare, made with extreme care and precision. The servings are to the point, they fill you up. A tad on the costly side but quality and taste made up for it. Was recommended as a must try during my visit to Colombo. Would go there again.
For a cuisine that shares elements from other cuisines in the South East Asian region, the Sri Lankan cuisine will leave you satisfied!Just a few days ago, I got the chance to try out authentic Sri Lankan food at Upali’s, a place the locals swear by. Fortunately, the restaurant was not too far away from my hotel so I was able to walk there and get to explore the vicinity. Situated opposite Viharamahadevi Park, it makes perfect sense because you’re able to take a nice stroll around the park after eating to your heart’s content! As you enter the restaurant, you have local Sri Lankan music playing in the background while there are plates which are autographed by cricket players kept on display above. Upali’s offers a set menu for lunch which comprises of rice (red or white), three vegetables (I had beetroot, potato and avoided the jackfruit), coconut sambol (a Sri Lankan staple), dried fish, red chilli, curried gravy and pappadums on the side. Since it’s an all veg set menu, you have the option to order a nonveg gravy so I got Elu Mas stew which is mutton cooked in coconut milk, onions, potatoes, ginger, curry leaves and spices.I must make note that these items tend to be on the spicier side so be prepared and keep them tissues close to you. Each of the vegetables had a rich flavour to them and the dried fish added a punch to the set lunch. The mutton stew was perfect and for us here in India, would have loved to have it with appam! To wash all of this down, the passionfruit juice was refreshing and cooled my tongue. I suggest you have the same when you come here.Service was impeccable and the staff were warm and knew everything about the menu.Overall, I was stuffed by the end of this meal and was thrilled that I got to have such a tasty Sri Lankan meal. If you’re feeling too full after eating here, just head across the road and take a walk in the park and then be on your way. It’ll be so worth it!
Amazing Srilankan food served at Upalis. The thali and the mutton curry was mouth watering. The srilankan dessert was absolutely amazing. Highly recommended place in Colombo
