Been there only because they had Shisha. Wasn’t quiet happy about the additional charge for coal. The hummus was alright, although can’t expect a Sri Lankan spot to be on point with Middle Eastern Food

Located in Galadari, Sheherezade was a must-try for me or anyone looking for Arabic cuisine. We visited it on a Sunday (1800/- net per non-resident of Galadari only on Sunday for dinner). I would have to say the starters were definitely the hit of the cuisine. The hummus was delicious and the salads were full of flavour from the middle east. However, as we moved onto the main course, we were rather disappointed. Most of the names of the dish were rather complicated and didn’t mention the type of meat used. I accidentally ended up serving myself lamb (which I don’t eat). We asked the waiters what that was before we served it, and even they didn’t know. (Edit: From the second time, they added the english names as well.)They had biriyani, which I’m sure was more Indian than anything Arabic and not much more variety in the main course. (Edit: The second time, the had kofta rice, but it was so dry and it screamed salt and pepper.)They had kebabs and rotis, but it wasn’t readily available. We had to wait for a good 10 minutes while they prepared it. I would recommend the beef kebab but not the shrimp or chicken (and this is coming from a chicken lover). (Edit: A nice man immediately served us our rotis this time, though it did take a little while to get the kebabs served. The chicken was really good this time but the prawns and shawarma chicken was slightly over charred.)The deserts weren’t anything spectacular. I was looking for authentic Arabian sweets like baklavas but sadly, it was some hot pudding, chocolate cake and mousse.(Edit: I did have the pleasure of having some baklavas yesterday. They had a lot of Arabian deserts this time.)The worst thing about this experience was how judgemental the waiter is. There were so many food, and every time we got up to get some food, they would just stare at us like we were eating out of their money. I’ve had a similar experience at the Coffee Shop, but those waiters were waiting to clear our plates. But not in Sheherezade. Here, they were like ‘why are you eating so much’ and I so badly wanted to say ‘because it’s my money and I can.’ (EDIT: From the past experience to this, this was the only thing that remained the same. It was really annoying. Bro, like please stop looking at us and what we’re eating!)If you can ignore the judgemental waiters and looking for a fairly cheap place to get a decent Arabic dinner, visit Galadari on a Sunday night after 8. I wouldn’t recommend this very much if you’re looking for Authentic Arabian Cuisine because Colombo has so much more to offer than this, like the Shisha spot in Cinnamon Grand and even Arabian Knight.

Came to get some quality arabic food in srilanka, itwasnt quite all that. Food was decent, not bad at all, but nothing great and given the price it was a bit of a let down. The shisha was great though, thought it was pretty good compared to other places ive been to in srilanka

  • Amant De Viande

One of the few shisha (5 star) places in Colombo. Offers Arabic and Mediterranean food. But it has a long way to go compared to the Arabic or Mediterranean restaurant I’ve been in the Middle-East and North Africa..
