Authentic Japanese foods with great customer satisfaction. The dine in area is cool surrounding with Japanese style traditional dining with sitting. It would be great if the restaurant can be opened little more than 2.30 PM for lunch.
Sakura you get what you pay for. When suffering from a sushi craving, if you skimp on the finer establishments and go to Sakura, don’t expect perfectly rolled Maki and delicate morsels of goodness. You will get some fish wrapped in rice and it will be decent, so shut up and eat it
One of the oldest and most well-known Japanese restaurants in Colombo and one of the go-to locations for good sushi. It is stylized with a very traditional Japanese atmosphere, with sliding doors and floor mats to sit on. The waitresses are in traditional dress as well but are more comfortable speaking Sinhalese. Service is friendly and average on the speed side, some dishes like sashimi took a while to get served while the chicken katsu rice we ordered arrived promptly. The ambiance is so-so, some rooms are quite dark but other areas are well-lit. Prices are reasonable but leaning towards the higher-end side of the spectrum. All in all, a must-visit location for Japanese cuisine in Colombo.
A nostalgic favourite that has diminished in stature as newer competitors have literally eaten its lunch. Price increases have really taken away a lot of the value that made this a must-visit for sushi in Colombo. There is a choice of seating at this venue, which I like even though the tatami mats and low tables are hard on knees. Regular sized tables and chairs are in the next room; and there is a bar area which I’ve never felt brave enough to sit by.The sushi and sashimi is mid range and was great value for money at one point. No longer though, from an year or two ago the prices are now comparable to slightly better fare without a noticeable increase in quality. The nigiri sushi, kappa/tekka maki and tikka don are all creditable dishes here, while the bacon maki (tempura fried bacon wrapped around cheese and a stick of celery) is a guilty delight to be sampled sparingly. The ramen is less good here than other places like Poppy Hana, tend to avoid that. Ask for extra wasabi if you need it, the dollop tends to be fairly small here for most dishes.Service is inconsistent, have had both good and somewhat slow servers on occasion.
