Went there on a lazy Friday afternoon with a friend. Ordered their Burgher influenced Special: Lamprais. The Lamprais was delicious to say the least, it was cooked well and came in a good quantity. The melon juice was insipid and unspiced. Their Sandwich was excellent and large enough. The Strawberry iced tea was very good.Cool – chic ambience with some expats flowing in and out. The place boasts of some music events from time to time, so, that too can be a good reason to come here.Recommended!
I first visited Sooriya Village in April 2017 for dinner with some friends. I have been visiting there quite frequently since, and love going there for so many reasons. To start with, the place has lovely ambience. The concept behind Sooriya Village is that it has been created primarily for artists, musicians, dancers, writers, etc. to have their meet and greets. The place is run by the Wickremesooriya Family (of the Sooriya Records Fame), who have been patrons of all sorts of arts for 50 years. (At the time of this article.) The location is equipped with a recording studio, fully equipped classrooms for music lessons, a practice room with a mirrored wall and a library. All of these facilities are available for artists at very reasonable hiring fees and hiring terms. It’s a breath of fresh air when compared to other studios, practice spaces and recording studios in Sri Lanka. The decor is beautiful within the interior as well as the outer areas of the restaurant and every item of interior and exterior decor is a piece of art, from the Devil Dancer statues to the Mini murals which run along the walls to the painting of the almost life-sized Na Tree inside. You can see that there has been a lot of thought and attention to detail gone which into the process. The menu has been created in collaboration with Koluu, and has items which are different to anything else you get in Colombo. Having tried quite a bit of the menu I have a few favourites – Roasted Pumpkin and Cauliflower soup, Beetroot Soup, Creamy Mushroom Pasta & The Asian Fusion Chicken Salad. Some of the other favourites among my usual dining companions are – Pork Ribs in Kithul Treacle Sauce, Jaggery Pork Curry, Belly Pork in Hot Butter Sauce & the Thai Beef Salad Wrap to name a few. My only concern is there aren’t enough vegetarian options, and I do hope they introduce some new items in the future. The service is impeccable; staff are friendly, attentive and professional, all the while giving you enough privacy to carry on with the conversation/meeting/work which you might be engrossed in. (Sooriya is perfect for work lunches.)Good Luck Team Sooriya Village!#sooriyavillage #sooriyamusicvillage
