I remember this place as a kid, back when I would stop for a bite on my way home from piano lessons. Visited it today and they have completely revamped the place. From the colours to both the interior and exterior, everything has changed, except for two things. The name. And the perfect puff pastry. The place looked clean and well maintained, but then again, I didn’t hang around long enough to make a thorough inspection. It’s open to the road, which makes it quite bright and airy during the day. There’s a large dining area with ample seating, as well as a separate counter for lunch, though despite visiting in the middle of the day, it was empty and had no sign of any rice or curries. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by rows and rows of pastries, buns and cakes galore. Most of which looked quite appealing, though rather inconsistent. The pastries were all different shapes and sizes, with some fairly large ones mixed in with those only half their size. So small in fact that they looked like rolls.I had the fish pastry, which was what I used to get way back then too. The pastry itself was just as I remembered, buttery, flaky and melting in your mouth. And the best part was that it was served warm, which enhanced the richness of the pastry. The filling though was a bit of a let down, being more potato than fish, and not very spicy either. And the oil they had used left a horrible after taste. But I didn’t mind any of it simply because the pastry itself was so good. I had got it to go and was regretting not getting another, especially since I was given one of the dreaded small ones. The prices are very reasonable. And they even have a few sweet breads on offer.
