Well it’s been a long time since I’ve been to Silk Route, but the only visit I had is worth good rating. I booked the place for a special occasion with very short notice. They were very graceful and helpful with the booking and seating arrangement to start with. Food was fabulous and my family loved it even thought it took little time to serve the food. Presentation is wonderful and ambiance is great. Portions are good, price is on the higher side but worth the money. Parking is available without a problem downstairs. But for busy nights it might be not enough. Sometimes place is given for parties, better to check before making plans for quiet dinner outing there. With kids, parents be careful there are lot of things which they could break or fall into.

Silk Route has joined the city of Malabe with extravagant dishes which could be found across the silk route and beyond that as well. The restaurant is situated roughly 100m away from the Malabe bus stand, making it convenient and accessible for the customers. We decided to settle for the Signature Soup Dish, consisting of mixed seafood chowder with a generous helping of bread. The soup was impressive and had a good amount of seafood. The bread basket offered around 6 varieties of white and brown bread along with the usual butter spread, giving a nice variety of choice.Next, we settled for a starter, ‘Crispy Basket’ (700LKR) as suggested by the manager and the berry path and the silk route mule (The signature mocktail at Silk Route). Crispy basket consisted of spring rolls, calamari rings, fish fillets, potato wedges, simple coleslaw salad and a spicy sauce. Spring rolls were ordinary. Calamari with the spicy sauce was the bomb and the fish fillets were good. Potato wedges were also a bit to the spicy side but thick and went well with the sauce provided. Coleslaw was made of but, fresh cabbage and carrot. The berry path (500LKR) could have used more berries and less yogurt in it. The Silk Route mule (350LKR) consisting of ginger beer, lime, passion fruit and honey was something extraordinary. It was very sweet at first, but bitter towards the end.The next big thing; the mains were the Chicken Marco-Polo (LKR850), the signature rice dish at Silk Route which consists of and the Tex max Chicken Sizzler (LKR 1100). Marco-Polo is a Chinese rice dish with a chicken fillet on top with a small side of coleslaw and chili paste. It was not so ordinary and yet not so extravagant. The portion was generous and a bit sticky for my taste but not oily. Tex Max Sizzler comes with a sizzling dish made of onion, bell pepper, fresh coriander, mushroom, green chili, Cajun seasoning served with spicy onion gravy and tortilla bread. The sauce which was served went well with the tortilla bread and the chicken and was a generous portion. Chicken was flavored just right and cooked well and tasted yummy with the tortilla.Next up was the desserts and the silk route dessert menu had some inventive names on it, which got us thinking. Mango cheesecake (LKR 500) and coconut Tiramisu (LKR 550) spiced up our curiosity. Gotukola was quite disappointed when the cheesecake appeared because it didn’t look anything like cheesecake. It would have done the dish justice if it was called the mango mousse and it had a faint mango flavor and was served with small slices of karaththacolomba mango. Coconut Tiramisu came with a side of blue berry which was kind of surprising. It was of the corret texture but I would have preferred a strong hint of coffee from the tiramisu, but still it was quite satisfying. The ambience is perfect and wish the roof top was available when we were dining in. the presentation of the food items is very catchy and simply beautiful. The staff is very friendly and would guide you throughout the menu. The prices are a bit pricy, but could be justified since it is an extravagant authentic restaurant. The ambience is perfect for family gatherings, meetups and dates. The manager allows alcohol to be brought in from outside. The place is quite nice and is the much-needed change for the city of Malabe.
