A nice place to have some quality time with your buddies.Drinks for a reasonable price and they have a good lunch menu as well. But mainly goes as a bar and today the bar was a bit crowded. The place not that much attractive but have some good seatings on upstairs and enough space to have hang up with some drinks.Music was good and a place that I would love to visit again.
Ah. White Horse. As far as dodgy bars go, this place will remain fondly in hearts both young and old. From purely a lunch POV, do yourself a favour and visit on Wednesday- Friday. The black pork curry makes an appearance on Wednesday, and is a beautiful dish indeed. Their rice and curry is delicious, home made and with the right amount of veggies. For a change, order a veggie rice and a portion of devilled chicken/pork. It’s enough for two, and again delicious. Sheshadri Kottearachchi
Nostalgia is pointless indulgence when it comes to the White Horse. Its had a good run at this location but is now usually quite empty on weeknights. This is a classic and probably unfair situation where everyone stops going because they think the place is crowded. When I drop by, there are a few tables occupied with people who obvious work in the offices nearby, but no one else. The chrome bar fittings are familiar, as are the leather sofas upstairs.Their cuttlefish is still a classic (super spicy though), and the devilled dishes are OK if occasionally heavy on onion and tomatoes. They used to offer outstanding cheese toast (great quality cheese) at one point but quality on that dish has declined somewhat. Not entirely sure where the affordable tag comes in, the prices here are about the same as any mid-range bar in the city and may even be a little more expensive.
I actually haven’t been here in 6 years. The last time I was here I was digging into some cuttlefish snack while a friend puked in the loo. The cocktails used to be affordable, hope it still is? Best place to drop in after work If you work in the area.
One of the cleaner joints around Nawam Mawatha to have lunch, they do serve a decent rice and curry and will give you as much chili paste as you want.
