  Living in Colombo and missing Indian food? This is one place you all can rely on any day and stands up to their tagline : “The” Indian Restaurant Having stayed in Colombo for 4 months now, Shanmugas has been the place I prefer when I am craving south indian food, feeling unwell, feeling fresh, for any mood in short. They serve the thalis only for lunch and have 4 varieties. I generally go for the unlimited South Indian thali which consists of Rice, puri, dal, sambar, one gravy, one dry vegetable, green chutney, one Indian sweet, curd, papad(am) and the world’s best Rasam. Being a south Indian, i have had Rasam all my life, at home and restaurants. But the aroma of this Rasam is not comparable with any other. Make sure you have extra Rasams ;). Their Variety of Dosas is also very authentic, to say the least. The vada sambar, idli, chhole puri all deserve to be mentioned in the review. I tried a few things from their North Indian menu, wasn’t very impressive. But neither do I expect them to excel in that, being a south indian restaurant. Food – 5/5Service – 5/5Politeness of the staff – 4.5/5 (There is one manager who was rude to us couple of times) Cleanliness – 5/5 Hygiene- 5/5

  hi all,this is a pure veg indian restaurant serving the best quality and tasty indian food.one can savour on south indian as well as north indian food,the thalis are available only in the lunch time.we went there for dinner on 30.5.19.the food was great.must try : rava masala dosa,sada dosa and filter coffee is a must must try.the timings are very strict in colombo so make sure you reach there on time or else you won’t get the good service.jain food is also made on order.once in srilanka there are a very few good veg only places,one of those is shanmugas.

  This place is a must visit for all who love south asian cuisine. Reasonably priced food with great services make this experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend the place.

  If you love typical south indian food, head to this place. I tried their paneer dosa for dinner and it was delicious . The filling was a lot and the sambar was flavourful. They serve the dosa with sambar and 2 chutneys. Also tried the chole poori which was again a delight . The mushroom soup was excellent too. Love the ambience and the food. Must visit if you are in Colombo
