Thai Innovative Comfort Food. Kao Jai: "to understand rice from the heart". Our Chef Calvin Wang was born in Taipei raised in Bangkok, his goal is to reinvent Asian comfort food in a non-traditional way. To create food without borders. KaoJai aims to bring Bangkok street flare to Taipei. We combine modern cooking techniques with Thai street food to create something exciting and unique. Aside from the food, it is furnished with bold Thai pop-art, paintings and ornaments placed throughout the restaurant. All of it hand-picked and imported just for KaoJai. At KaoJai, Calvin integrates the techniques developed through his years in fine dining with food that he grew up eating. Grilled meat skewers zested with kaffir lime. Betel leaf salad smashed in a mortar and pestle. Thai fried chicken with home-made fermented chili sauce. All served with sticky rice & herb baskets. Just like in Thailand. The only sure thing is our interpretation of Asian Food is not for the faint-hearted.
