In the 17. bc a geographer who was born Amasya saw Galata and around of and mentioned its like a forest covered with fig trees. The first Chirstian settlement at Galata began in the 2nd century ad. It became administrative territory in the 330 ad. After the laste of invasion (1261) Latin Genoese and Byzantine nation made on agreement and then they settled in Galata. Genoese nation lived in the north west of today taly peninsula.17 yy Famous traveler Evliya elebi wrote about Galata which was like a village in his Seyahatname. In those days peasant offered their sheeps milk to the king. And in Greek language, Galata means milk.so this place was named as Galata. They pointed out the pressure of the Venetians who had been fighting for their history and built the walls of Galata by turning the area around them separated by the trench between 1303 and 1312. The walls were about 2 meters thick and surrounded 3700 (0.37 square meters) hectares with 2800 mt circumference.
