Bwindi Bar is quickly becoming popular with tourists and locals alike. The prices are very affordable. Bwindi Bar is a unique concept for this very remote part of Uganda. It is the first place, away from the tourist lodges, that serves a variety of coffees, teas and juices, as well as delicious breakfast options that blend international and local tastes. Popular menu options include the "rolex" - a type of Ugandan snack of an omelette rolled up in a chapatti. At Bwindi Bar, we serve the rolex ['rolled eggs' ] with chips, guacamole and salsa. Bwindi Bar was opened in 2015 by the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust, a non-profit organization. It is located near Volcanoes Safaris' Bwindi Lodge on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The bar provides a practical training institution for local disadvantaged youths who live near the Bwindi National Park in Buhoma. This programme equips trainees with the skills to gain successful employment in hospitality, in an area most famous for mountain gorilla trekking tourism. The trainees gain practical skills in food and service before they intern at the cafe for two months. They are then sent for further internships at nearby lodges. As well as enjoying freshly prepared drinks and meals, Bwindi Bar clients are helping develop this remote corner of Uganda. All profits from Bwindi Bar go to support the training of these young people.Details
