The choice of the name of our coffee-shop Shtuka (The Art) was not random. . Despite quite wide explanation of this word, the fact that 100 years ago such establishment had already existed in Lviv, which was founded in 1909 by Ferdynand Turlinskyi on Teatralna Str. That was beautiful coffee-shop, which was decorated by the paintings of famous artists of those times: Sikhulskyi, Dembitskyi, Blotskyi, Pauch. It was always pleasant and interesting to look at those walls observing new masterpieces. Stanislav Ludkevych told that people came there not only to have a small black, but for a special mood which was created at late time in the dusk. Keeping the old name of the coffee-shop, we wanted the spirit of nowadays SHTUKA to correspond the spirit of the old one. The restored atmosphere will help You to dive into the time of Lviv restorers, who restored the inscriptions on the front and the frescos on the ceilings of the beginning of XX century, helped us to do that.The inscriptions on different languages show not only vast choice of goods, but also confirm tolerant coexistence of the Ukrainians, the Polish and the Jews and say about multinational nature of Lviv in those times. Famous writer of world literature, the jewish writer Solom Aleykhem, lived in one of the buildings on Kotliarska Str. He wrote here Josef, Two antisemits. In his memories he recollected the time spent in our city with warmth: You see, Lviv is not the same as Brody. First, the city itself is purity, width, beauty! You cant stop watching it. Of course, in Lviv there are streets as in Brody, which You can cross only wearing high rubber boots and closing Your nose. But there is a garden in the middle of the city, where everyone, even goats, can walk. Free country!.. And what people there are! Mother says, there is tremendous difference between Brody and Lviv..! We not only hope, but we are sure, that You, dear Lviv citizens, will become frequent guests in Shtuka. You will get current news here, You will dive into the world of art here; quiet and exquisite music will raise Your spirit, different dainties will smile at You from the shelves: jellies, donuts, pastries and of course flavory coffee.
