While waiting for some of my friends, I had my afternoon coffee at the Le Cafe at Sofitel. As for the service, Neng Susilawati was very kind, professional and up to the expectation of someone who works in such reputable place.

The cafe is quite fancy with a French chef except I would prefer it having an outdoor area. The dessert was delicious and mostly chocolate so for any chocolate fan this is the place to go. Their latte was not too shabby, I would just say my issue is mostly the location and I truly wish they had more variety with their desserts.
I have visited this lobby cafe at Sofitel a few times for a casual cup of coffee or tea. They have the most amazing red velvet cake and lovely macaroons.
Discount information: Groupon voucher for Afternoon Tea set for 2 at 51% off aed160 vs aed325. Valid until 13 May 2015.Yesterday, at the small, simple but tastefully furnished and spotlessly clean little restaurant at Murjan Asfar Apartment Hotel, we really enjoyed our hearty Mexican meal (with an Asian touch!).Today, at about double the price, we dined on delicate pastries and sandwiches for afternoon tea at Le Cafe at the sophisticated Sofitel.Surely it would have been a far superior dining experience? We were, after all, in plush, expensive surroundings, with fine china and cutlery, eating a meal prepared by world-class trained chefs. So, the food was, well, OK; reasonably appetising, but not spectacular. We had called a day ahead and chosen the Arabic afternoon-tea set over the English one, as my hubby, an American of English-Scottish descent, was well familiar with the latter. For drinks, there was a choice of coffees, teas, and just 1 herbal infusion, namely camomile. In the end, it was the simple fruit scones, served piping hot with clotted cream, 2 kinds of jam, and chocolate sauce (all very English) were his favourite. The tri-layered sandwiches of salmon and cucumber were also well-received. However, the Arabic sweets failed to impress. As my hubby put it, they were ‘just regular,’ which isn’t what you expect when you pay the price we did at the Sofitel (even though we used a Groupon buy-one-free-one voucher). In comparison, we felt the afternoon tea at the Cafe Columbia at Beach Rotana, about two-thirds the cost, was more varied, tastier, and simply more fun looking! Also, my practical side wished for regular-height tables instead of the lounge setting which I found a little inconvenient for eating, although my hubby enjoyed the cushy armchair he was in!As for the service, as provided to us by Miss Lourdes, it was faultless; warm, welcoming and attentive. Our thanks and congratulations to Des, as she preferred to be called. Conclusion: for ambiance, service and sophistication, the Le Cafe at Sofitel is the place to be. For diehard foodies, you might want to spend your money elsewhere.
