If you are a lover of authentic Mangalorean sea food or crave for Mangalorean snacks or beverages, you must visit Karavali Restaurant. It may look like your average neighborhood restaurant, but has much to offer when it comes to taste the coastal recipes of Karnataka State from India.My all time favorite from this restaurant is Mangalore buns. The buns are mildly sweet made with all-purpose flour and banana. Upon ordering, the dough is rolled and deep fried to serve them piping hot. The buns from this restaurant are so soft and fluffy that I can eat them just like that without even dipping into a coconut chutney. This could be eaten as a breakfast or evening tea time snack but yes, you can’t stop eating just one. Though I am lover of sea food, I rarely order shell fish from outside simply because I am afraid if getting my stomach upset as I am not sure about the cleaning and freshness of it. While talking to the staff who are friendly, I understood they buy fresh fish and clean properly and take extra care to maintain the quality. So finally I ordered the crab ghassi which is again the most relished dish from coastal part of Karnataka. Oh boy! That was the best crab curry I ate in the town. The right amount of spices, fresh and fleshy crabs and the aroma of the curry made by dinner the best. In spite of their authentic sea food dishes and snacks, I still feel they could improve the taste of Mangalorean chicken dishes like chicken sukka or kori rotti.
