Salero is a hidden gem in Kempinski hotel, we got to experience it first hand .firstly , the host warmly welcomed us in and showed us to our table, then the most friendly staff were helping us choose our dishes, recommended the drinks and were checking on us all the time..the food was very tasty, vibrant and fresh, full of flavour and delicious.. we will definitely come back again . 5 stars !!
We got several dishes here, and each one was more bland and tasteless than the last. Given what you pay, this is probably one of the most overpriced disappointing Spanish restaurants we’ve ever been to.
Went there for brunch on Friday. The food was good but the service was slow and disappointing. And for a Spanish restaurant there wasn’t churros for desert. Some of the staff was nice and really sweet. The chef was really sweet to come to each table and have a chat with us. The musicians were AMAZING. My feet couldn’t stop tapping. Not one of the best Brunch experiences. Will come back for their à la carte options. Looking at the previous reviews, I guess we just came on an off day.
Salero – Tapas and Bodega is located at one absolute dead-end of the Mall of Emirates. You would actually have to KNOW it exists because you cannot find this place by chance! The restaurant was not too crowded, so I’m guessing most of the crowd comes from the hotel itself. We were ushered to 2-3 tables (which were later joined because we all seemed so distant) that were simply decorated with tea-lights and little mosaic bulls. We were first served with bread that came with a chunk of garlic, a bowl of salsa, rock salt and olive oil. Our hostess, Conchita, explained that the accompaniments were supposed to be rubbed onto the bread and then eaten. Very simple and rustic. Our tapas started after that:1. Cold gazpacho: This was served in a shot glass!2. Cheese platter with grapes, apples and quince jelly. I wasn’t too fond of the cheese, but I loved the jelly because the quince tasted like guavas3. Anchovies with lettuce and vinaigrette. I couldn’t love this as the anchovies were just too salty!4. Patatas bravas: This was easily a crowd favourite. Honestly speaking, it was just a vegetarian version of P.F. Chang’s Dynamite Shrimp. No wonder it was served twice!5. Sautéed mushrooms in white wine and fried peppers: I don’t know if the intention of the salt in the dish was to BE crunchy, but I literally had crystals of salt along with the mushrooms! The chilis in the dish didn’t help and it was literally the most bland dish on the menu!6. Grilled Vegetables: Although this dish was not on the menu, our hostess had it prepared for those who were on Lent and were vegetarian. What a sweet gesture! The veggies were grilled well, but there really is no fun without meat!7. Sautéed shrimps with garlic and chili: There seems to be a common problem with the sautéing! Both the mushroom and the shrimps were bland beyond belief! They actually tasted like they were steamed!8. Calamari: These were lightly coated and crisp-fried. No complaints!9. Potato Salad with tuna: This was a genuinely good salad! Good comfort food.10. Lobster paella: The lobster was succulent, but the paella was too “fishy” for my liking. I would’ve preferred the chicken over the lobster any day. Also, too salty. Disclaimer: I cannot comment on the beef ham, the oxtail with mashed potatoes because I didn’t taste them. For dessert, we were served something resembling fancy pound cake, a coffee Swiss roll with a cherry filling and a choco-caramel cheesecake. Nobody explained these to us, so this is what I assumed the desserts were! I really expected churros, but was surprised to see no sign of it!! For the price range, I guess there were more misses than hits. I don’t think I will travel all the way to MOE and head right down to the corner when there are better options out there. This was a one-time visit only.
