Follow me on instagram: HighExpecTASTEion I really wanted to like this place but I couldn’t. The food looked good but it was either oily or bland. It is better than your typical fast food Chinese however.
We couldn’t find the shop because we were new to Dubai but we called them and a staff member came to pick us up. The restaurant has a very Chinese homely feel. The food is tasty and priced economically. We especially enjoyed the fish.
Food is not as good as I thought it will be. Everything was saucy and there’s not much taste to it. Chicken feels springy and the stir fried mushrooms are too sweet for my liking. Sichuan fried fish has lots of bones in it.
Sometime in March 2015, me and my husband went on a hunt for a good Sichuan restaurant, after trying this cuisine for the first time on our trip to San Fransisco. Taste of Sichuan is truly a hidden gem. Even after following their directions, which I must say are pretty straight-forward; we were always really close to them, but still couldn’t find them! Someone from the restaurant came to where we were and showed us the way :)It’s a relatively small, but neat and clean restaurant with very welcoming staff. Our server helped us pick out our mains. Loads of non-vegetarian choices, but not too many vegetarian for me. He went went for the Crispy Spicy Chicken – which was very crispy chicken served on a bed of very spicy chilli! I ordered the Ma’po Tofu, which had a nice spicy gravy. We also ordered a bowl of steamed white rice, which was necessary to tone down all the spice! It was a good experience, but it didn’t quite recreate the experience we had in San Fransisco. I would go back only if there’d be some more vegetarian choices other than tofu.
(earlier post mistakenly deleted)This place is truly and literally a hole-in-the-wall discovery. The map is helpful but you might have to call them for directions when in doubt. The restaurant is small, simple yet clean. Staff are cheerful and friendly, they even went out to meet us to make sure that we would find the place. But on to the food! This is hardcore Sichuan cuisine, make no mistake about it. If you like it hot and spicy then go for it. Everything on the menu just screams chili but that is what you’re here for, right? We had the BBQ squid and it was full of flavor but was almost on the verge of becoming tough, still I enjoyed every morsel of it. The beef in spicy oil was tender and just had the right balance of heat. My companion was sweating like crazy the entire meal but was loving the food as much as I do.We also ordered the baby clams, it tasted fresh and still had its natural sweetness, definitely one of my favorite. The fish dish on the tray (I forgot what it’s called) was just ok, could have been cheaper. But overall, it was a great experience and I would certainly come back again and try the other food on the menu. A real hidden gem!
