A very welcome bangladeshi budget restaurant in the middle of meenabazar, in the next lane of Astoria hotel.When it opened around 2 months back, their food was really top class. But now ot has deteriorated to a large extent. I am sure the pinch is getting a good cook and support staffs and raw materials at a dirt cheap price is a huge problem now in Dubai.I used to like huge shrimps, lovely Katla and Rui fishes and some superb homely style mutton. In their combo thalis , unlike other similar places, they don’t give any vegetables, that’s usually a norm in Bengali households. Very rarely they would. Out of that Lau, knakrol, potol etc vegetables were really cooked very well. Especially the biriyani – Dhaka style and initially they used to give mutton curry with that. That mutton curry was divine in taste and looks. During ramadan the Haleem at 2 dhs was awesome. Macher bhorta was also a welcome addition , served occasionally.Maggi noodles, firni, sweet dahi etc all at the princely sum of 2-3 dhs were special attractions.They will give every person a huge bowl of rice and another bowl of light runny dal, which is popular in Bangladesh. Then the particular meat or fish or egg item will come with sometimes an additional small bowl of vegetables. They have started the most delectable Jilipis and other sweets. Last night I had a great sorpunti.The hygiene was always a problem here. Staffs are many a time clueless. But the heart was there. Hopefully things will turn for the better in the future.
