Visited Baker and Spice at the Souq Al Bahar couple of days back for dinner, had heard a lot about restaurants there and this one had fairly good ratings, was I in for a shock! After 3 starters and 1 main course we decided this place was absolutely not worth it. The cheese platter while sounds good (and you cant go wrong with it), it had 5 different cheeses but 3 pieces of crackers (we ate the rest of the cheese with a fork!). As we had some vegetarian friends, we asked for a vegetarian spaghetti in tomato base, they wouldn’t even add extra olives or peppers! And the spaghetti was lumpy, dry and without much flavour (I make a better pasta !). Another starter, focaccia bread, was clumsily made, unlike authentic italian restaurants or even unlike food court QSRs, this one came looking like a tandoori Roti with cheese on top!Lastly, the main course was chicken Schnitzel which was alright in taste but very small in size and the accompaniment was just a few green leaves. For the price this restaurant charges, the serving size is pretentious and the quality is abysmal. I’ve had much better food at cheaper food court joints, the food that such restaurants peddle in the garb of fine dining is just lame. Also, there’s pretty much nothing for vegetarians. Completely avoidable at all cost unless all you’re going is for the fountain view!
