Was really excited to try this place, So went last Friday and I’d say I am a little disappointed. Good view and good seating area but food was lacking the quality. It was an average experience overall.

Asian District, 1 person, 3 dishes, 1 mocktail, 1 sparkling water: 183 dirhams (US$45, £41, €45)Asian District sort of joins the growing trend for food halls under the banner of a restaurant. Asian District is a congregation of six different Southeast Asia themed “booths” including Vietnamese, Singaporean, Thai, Chinese and more. There is a copious amount of dining space clearly anticipating throngs of visitors. There is also a fully stocked and licensed bar. The pitch seems simple: come to Asian District to graze your way through South East Asia feasting on its varied offerings and swig down drinks with LOTS of friends. This is consistent for me with the overall proposition of The Pointe and its varied restaurant options tipping towards the casual dining. So a friend who recently traversed through Asia recommended this place lavishing praise here for the quality of the food but also the impressive food offers they have here of roughly 180 dirhams for unlimited dining save for a few items that are supplemental. Indeed my waitress keenly told me about this offer as soon as I sat down. The decor is predictably “Asian” featuring stereotypical nods towards paper fans, street art styled portraits of geishas and hanging lanterns. I failed to recognise any shiny golden cats waving at me however I may not have investigated deep enough. I split my order between China and Korea: two dim sum dishes namely a version of childhood favourite, chicken char sui buns (38 dhs), and a separate steamed prawn dumpling with bamboo shoots (46 dhs). An order of Korean Fried Chicken wings, Dak Gangjeong 48 dhs), could not be left unsampled. All the food arrived at once.Dak Gangjeong, Korean Chicken WingsThe wings arrive like the scene of a violent massacre took place right here only the plate only moments before being served with a smile. The only thing missing here to complete this crime scene look is a taped outline and CSI Las Vegas circling me. Picture it: A dark, blood crimson and black pool binding four, glossy fried wings leaning on each other like tent polls polished in a gleaming lacquer-like sticky, spicy and irresistible marinade rich with ginger and chilli heat. It’s marinade is magic leaving me to ungraciously forage like a Neanderthal through chicken wings. This is the kind of shameless, guilty pleasure eating that would cause a first date to blush or suddenly need to take a call in the bathroom (FYI, you’re going home alone tonight). Yet the best thing about the Dak Gangjeong Korean Chicken Wings is the marinade. The chicken is overcooked, dry and desperately wants to be bathed and submerged in a brine overnight for a much needed boost of moisture. It would take this dish from good to great. Chicken char sui buns; steamed prawn dim sum with bamboo shootsIn short, there is some familiarity here with the dishes. They are good, enjoyable but not great. Three white towel soft buns were a generous portion for one filled with the signature char sui barbecue chicken. Yet the bun itself was quite dry. The prawn with bamboo shoots was subtle, enjoyable and you can take advantage of the soy or samba dipping sauces if you want a punch of something more. Service was impeccable, the waitresses are very attentive, courteous and thoughtful. They are clearly knowledgeable about the menu which is impressive given how broad it is.There is a short wine list with about four white and four red options. The prices are reasonable given the location on The Pointe in the Palm.Overall, Asian district is very much geared towards groups of people who are coming together for a good time with each other. It is about catching up, socialising and being a venue likely popular on weekends. It screams ladies night specials. Would I come back? Yes to try other options but I am not here for the food when I come back. #thepointe #dimsum #chickenwings #asian #thepalm #casual #licensed eatgosee.com
