I’ve been here only once even though I worked in the building a while because the price is higher than the other close by outlets but that doesn’t stop Chinese customers from flocking in. Entire tourist buses send their riders to this restaurant to get authentic Chinese. I tried the fried rice which was good in taste (different from indo chinese) but had only this as price was on higher side for a quick office lunch break.
As a Chinese expats live in Dubai, it’s actually easy to find a traditional Chinese restaurant because there’s a bunch. This restaurant is one of my favorite. Especially its mixed spicy vegetable and meats in a pot. We call it MALAXIANGGUO. And both the waitress and price is friendly. Like DHS 60 per person.
The restaurant is located in the food court of the Business Village at the clock tower roundabout. During working hours the Business Village is very busy, and maybe the restaurant is also busy. However in the evening when we went there, there was hardly anybody there. The ambiance is quite nice, with round tables towards one side and sofa seating along one wall. Being vegetarians we first checked the menu for vegetarian options. They had a couple of soups, around 5 vegetarian dishes apart from noodles and rice. The options were not very exhaustive for vegetarians. And most importantly, none of the dishes were what you find in normal Chinese (Indian Chinese) restaurants. We ordered a soup and 3 vegetarian dishes – broccoli, ma-po tofu and chili potato along with fried rice and noodles. The portions are HUGE. One soup is enough for maybe 8 to 10 people. Similarly each of the main course dishes were substantial portions. And quite good – in a different way. Maybe this is more authentic Chinese cooking. The dishes were very mildly flavored especially the broccoli and potato dishes but it brought out the flavor of the vegetable better. However the tofu dish had a gravy which is needed since tofu itself is bland. However, nobody in our group liked the gravy of the Tofu. The service is quite good – but communication was not very easy with the lady serving us – but she listened patiently and finally managed to understand what we wanted. While we were eating, a huge group – maybe a bus load – came to the restaurant, and once they sat, the restaurant was full. Due the huge portions we were so full that we did not even check if they had any dessert options. Overall the experience was quite nice – and different. Maybe worth a visit – rarely though.
