Yesterday , on my way back from work I decided to to a takeaway from this hole in the wall Chinese delivery and takeout only . First impression , defiantly not the cleanest place I have seen , but then I most of your customers just phone in their orders and will mostly never see the inside of your establishment , you can get away with it. There is a bench placed for the takeout customers. The lady at the counter was quite friendly but not that well informed about the menu and the systems there. I ordered a Tom Yum Thai soup and a happy family , a me left of pork , shrimps , beef , tofu , raw bamboo and other assorted vegetables in a light sauce. First the flavours , the soup . Served with a bag of prawn crackers , was no where similar to any tom yum I have ever had , rather it was no way close to any Thai taste I have ever encountered , any where in the word , Thailand included , excerpt a hint of sour from some mystery ingredient , which was defiantly not lemon grass and the coconut smoothness was totally missing. First time in my life I encountered raw bamboo , tofu etc in a Thai preparation. That said , whatever this dish was , it was hot and quite nice , specially on a cold night. The happy family , which also had a load of water chestnuts was just about ok , like you would expect from any Chinese delivery. There were no seasoning and sauces provided with the food , no hot/chilly oil , no soya , no burnt / sweet chilly sauce , however as I have not had any Chinese delivered to me in UK before , that may be how they do things here. No paper napkins or plastic ware , including forks or disposable plates were packed along with the order. So the final word , no better or worst than your average or even bellow average Chinese takeouts , including on the value factor , you encounter every day , so you decide if you want to order from here.
