Shahban is owned and operated by Akram Lohn better known to the regulars as Majid. At first glance Shahban looks like a nothing-out-of-the-ordinary small Indian restaurant. It has occupied its spot next to Pontefract's grand old magistrates court building since 1992- but there's a lot more to the place than first meets the eye. On the first floor is a spacious all you can eat buffet area(open 6-10pm Thur-Sun), elegantly decorated in traditional style and seats up to 60 people in two distinct sections. Ground floor seats 30 people in contemporary style contrasting the first floor open 7 days a week 5pm-late Sun-Thur 5pm-1am Fri-Sat. The menu strikes a balance with old and new with traditional curries taking place alongside some of the imaginative dishes Majid has developed in his 20-plus years in the kitchen.
