Grey coloured fish, day old scallops, tried Websters on two consecutive days, first day, fish was warmed up from previous days closing, the fish was disgusting, grey and sloppy batter, second day, fish was over cooked batter burned and ordered a scallop, the scallop was greasy, and not freshly cooked. Most disappointing, if you want good Yorkshire fish n chips, this place has lost the plot, Websters used to be quality, not any more.
Great Fish & Chips. Shame about the road works as it makes it hard to get to this great little takeaway. BUT it is worth going, the fish are so fresh and its all cooked regularly so not sat getting soggy! They are the best F&C in the area by a mile!
Should have gone in bin. Idle take away….what a shame, keep hearing its not as good as the Baildon shop,,, tried it a few times..nothing to write home about… tonight was offered a free fish in the takeaway as the diner who ordered it didnt want it…. only wanted chips, however thought okay very nice of the fryer… having got home to taste the chips, they were over cooked and dry, must have been as old as the hard dry over fried fish, all went in bin, value for money, zero,,, loss of custom 100%.
Worst fish n chips I’ve had in years. We asked for a special haddock and chips. The ‘special’ was 4.99 just for the fish so we were expecting a big bit of fish. They fried it there and then so we also expected it to be nice. It was neither. The fish was no bigger than a normal portion of fish. The paper was covered in grease. The batter was soggy, and had mostly come away from the fish which was very dry. The chips tasted fine but the portion was really tiny. The mushy peas were fine. All in all we spent 15 on a really disgusting and ungenerous fish n chip supper. Having been away from the region for a while I was really looking forward to some good old Yorkshire fish n chips and was so very disappointed. Yuk.
Coeliacs beware …. The Gluten Free batter provided at Webster’s is a waste of time if you are truly gluten intolerant. The fish is cooked in the same oil as the ordinary batter and as you know cross contamination will have taken place. I confirmed this recently with Webster’s as I have had gluten symptoms after each visit. The famous Magpie restaurant in Whitby show this information on their menu but Webster’s say the onus is on the customer to ask and do their own research. If a restaurant says they are using gluten free batter I feel it infers the final product on my plate should be gluten free. Apparently staff should update the customer; which contradicts being told to do my own research and ask the questions; but we have been to Webster’s a number of times and never been given this information. On our first visit i asked if everything was really GF and the reply was ‘yes’. I realised the truth when I went for a take out and saw the fish come out of the same pan and it was thrown on top of the other fish. Chips also had scraps of batter in them. It is very disappointing as the Baildon branch is an excellent venue with good fish and chips and service. You can have steamed fish and chips, assuming the chef on duty understands using separate scoops for chips and fish. I thought others should be aware as Webster’s are not rushing to provide this important information.
OH DEAR. We have been using the saltaire take away for yearsbut after our meal the other day NEVER AGAIN!!The fish was cold and tasted foul and very strong, the mushypeas are the worst I have ever had.very let down as they are not the cheapest place to go buthave normally ok but after that and the Frier a older baldinggent who would could not see why we wanted freshly cooked fish?Very Very Poor.
Tasty fish and chips with a good pot of tea, excellent for a walk on the moors afterwards.
