Enormously Disappointed. My first impressions – staff lovely and friendly the place itself good. However during the night my observation changed mainly toward the food. I ordered the meat platter for starter, which was 3 BBQ chicken wings, 1 onion bhaji, 2 spring rolls and something else covered in pastry, to me this is not a meat platter!..It looked and tasted like supermarket bought party selection food. Main, Jerk pork with rice n peas, very tasty, but the pork was a bone with little meat. Dessert; Tesco’s or some supermarket chocolate cake with ice cream, now this speaks for itself. Overall; enormously disappointed with the standard of food. This was my first time I tried this restaurant and probably the last. Please note; this is some Caribbean Island food not Jamaican, whatever the Island is a very poor representation of it.Having the DJ gave it a good atmosphere after the meal, the food let it down in a major way great shame since it would have been a great little place to go

Disapointing. Arriving at 8pm we found that we were double booked and there were 12 people who had also been booked in for 8pm. My husband and I had to leave and come back, which we did, but still came back and found there were no seats for us. Seating is very limited in here, not sure if I would class it as a restaurant. Waiting over an hour and our mains turned up they had run out of jerk chicken which was disappointing. Overall we are no rush to ever venture here again, seating limited, chairs at table unsuitable to eat meal in and as been in business since 1985 at this location I do wonder?????

Delicious food, lovely staff. I had such a great experience at Alter Ega tonight! Really cute little venue just left and a few minutes walk out of Balham station. Bought a deal on KGB – absolute bargain (14 for 2 courses and glass of wine for 2 people)! 7 each for a glass of wine and two courses. Food was delicious and big portions, really enjoyed my first proper taste of Jamaican food! Quite shocked at what amazing value it was at 7 each as both quantity and quality of the food was fantastic. Wine very nice too! Really chilled atmosphere and staff really friendly. The lovely guy who served us was really friendly and did a great job looking after us – made great recommendations for food. DEFINITELY worth a visit 🙂

Great little place. When in there on a friday night for food and drinks, the staff looked after us really well. the food was great and we got massive portions and the drinks were nice and cheap. even got some complementarity drinks at the end :)cant understand why this place is often empty

Party Time. I love Alta Ega. It is a fantastic venue, no matter what the occasion; to meet with a couple of friends after work to relax over a drink, for a quiet meal or to have a larger gathering with lots of dancing. I have never known such a intimate place that can be so many things depending on the occasion. The staff are fantastic and friendly. I have wandered in there on my own for a pineapple juice and have also been there to the early hours dancing away with family and friends. You have to give it a try.
